Taking a vacation. From work. From Anchorage. From computers. From driving. From projecting forward.
I'm going dipnetting, camping, and walking on beaches. We're going to Kasilof Bay, Seward and Yukaton Island and will return on August 1st.
While I'm away I've prepared a story of the last few years out of my journal entries, letters, pictures and poetry that should appear on this blog every day around 1:00 am Alaska time. The time I'm usually writing. So pretend and keep reading. Please. I'll miss my village in a blog.
An Introduction
My words don’t wear fluorescent jackets or plaid pants.
They don’t dance on beer stained tables in their striped boxers.
They don’t surround you with bright red bullhorns to shout:
PAY ATTENTION TO ME!!!!
My words don’t wear purple eye shadow or a silver lip ring.
They don’t strut and shimmy in fishnet stockings.
They don’t entice you with flattery then
feign ignorance to their flirtations.
My words don’t carry switch knifes to scare or scar
any who threatens.
My words don’t change their tune
to impress more experienced players.
My words don’t please and thank you today and then
screw you tomorrow.
My words are sluggish and somewhat shy
They are
stepping outside
Naked
They are
revealing themselves
softly
slowly
as
they
are.
Ok, I don't know what "dipnetting" is but I am soooo jealous of anyone going on vacation.

Dipnetting is fishing for salmon by holding a big ole net in the water and waiting for the fish to swim in. As a family of 3 Alaskan residents we are allowed up to 45 fish to store for the winter so we can eat salmon all year round. One of the many perks of living here.
